RESEARCH AND POLICY ANALYST

Summary

Responsible for performing the assigned tasks and or take parts of policy research projects under supervision and general direction of Head of Research Unit while also contributing to ongoing projects by handling the supporting activities, such as data processing and handling, administrative tasks and engagement with external parties. He/she must be able to work independently and as part of a team, with strong time management skills and ability to prioritize competing demands, and is familiar with research activities in a think tank environment.

 

Job Description :

A. Research

  1. Defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions.

  2. Reading, analyzing, and interpreting general periodicals, reports, professional correspondence, and government regulations, as well as interpreting extensive variety of sources in written, oral, or diagram form.

  3. Writing reports and professional correspondence. 

  4. Effectively presenting information and responding to questions from senior researchers, managers, and donors.

  5. Reviewing and writing critical summaries of Indonesian and foreign research literature and/or public policy.

  6. Making site visits and administering surveys and interviews with public officials and/or private citizens (telephone, written, computer-assisted, and in-person interviews).

  7. Creating logical structure of basic research paper, conducting basic policy analysis and writing up research results.

  8. Liaising with external parties to execute projects professionally.

B. Fundraising

  1. Attending stakeholder meetings as attendees and understanding issues being addressed and identifying potential fundraising source from the discussions being attended.

  2. Assisting in writing proposals by providing relevant data to support the narrative.

C. External Engagement

  1. Moderating external events organized by CIPS or by external parties.

  2. Performing Bi-Monthly opinion editorial writings addressing relevant issues and topics within organization concerns and expertise.

  3. Assisting advocacy meetings by initiating contact and schedule an appointment with the relevant parties.

  4. Attending academic and stakeholders’ event in the effort to widen network and maintaining a good network.

  5. Representing CIPS and deliver presentation to share insights and expertise of CIPS research.

  6. Assisting Head of Research Unit in his/her activities related to the media engagement, include to prepare the data required for the event/expose, and to prepare readiness for the event in general.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in economics, public policy, political economy, international relations, sociology, law, and other related social science majors.

  2. Candidates with a master's degree are preferred.

  3. Minimum 3 years of experience in preparing and conducting research on public policy issues.

  4. Fluent in written and spoken English

  5. Practical experience in fieldwork, interviews, and gathering/analyzing data. Sound methodological knowledge in social science research (e.g., survey, case studies, ethnography, mixed methods) is an advantage.

  6. An analytical mindset and critical-thinking skills, and a high interest in Indonesia’s social and economic development

  7. Good leadership and project management skills to work independently and in a team. Demonstrable project management experience is a plus.

  8. A research portfolio in one or more CIPS’ research areas is preferred.

  9. A history of publication (academic articles, analyses, op-eds) and/or speaking engagements is preferred
