The Center for Indonesian Policy Studies (CIPS) has released its latest policy paper titled “Partnering to Push Back the Pandemic: Boosting Capacity to Deliver Covid-19 Vaccinations in Indonesia”. This paper discusses how public-private-partnership in COVID-19 vaccinations can support government objectives in achieving herd immunity.
Despite various programs and efforts by the Indonesian government, Indonesia continues to face challenges in controlling COVID-19. With herd immunity believed to be key to exiting the pandemic, the Deputy Minister of Health has announced an increase in daily vaccination targets from 1 million to 2 million doses per day.
However, supply volatility and distribution barriers remain as key challenges to getting vaccines to more Indonesians across the country. National vaccination efforts have so far largely relied on the limited resources of government agencies and state-owned enterprises and with the great differences in vaccination speed between regions, achieving herd immunity becomes increasingly elusive.
