While working from home CIPS continues to provide our perspectives to public policy discussions in Indonesia. For this, we would appreciate your insights!
We cordially invite you to join our Weekly COVID Briefing on Tuesday, 28 April at 8am GMT+7 (Jakarta time) or Monday, 27 April at 9pm EDT, if you are based in the US. Our CIPS team in Jakarta would like to discuss recent developments in Indonesia.
President Joko Widodo has finally banned Indonesians returning to their hometowns over the holy fasting month of Ramadan. He is afraid that 20 million Indonesians leave the cities and spread the virus. A difficult decision that met with much criticism.
Massive price spikes for masks and hand sanitizers mobilised private initiative to make these products more available. Meanwhile, food prices remain high. Why is the private sector not mobilising the same support here?
How can millions of unemployed get back to work? Is this the opportunity to advocate for long awaited policy reforms that make Indonesia more attractive to investment and speed up the recovery after the crisis?
CIPS supporters, such as yourself, work in a range of sectors and professions. Please join the CIPS team next week. The briefing will be held in English and we would love to hear your perspectives! If you can join, please register here before Monday 27 April.
Stay safe, talk to you soon! Salam hangat, Rainer Heufers Executive Director Center for Indonesian Policy Studies
