Head of Marketing and Communications

The Center for Indonesian Policy Studies (CIPS) is looking for the right candidate to be its Head of Marketing and Communications  This is a leadership role that will steer the planning, development, and execution of CIPS’ marketing communications initiatives. The  primary responsibilities are:  

1) to achieve  the advocacy and fundraising objectives of the organization and 

2) to ensure the successful communication of CIPS’ key messages across various channels to its intended audiences. The position oversees, in particular, media outreach, digital marketing, audiovisual content creation, events, and partnership initiatives that serve CIPS’ communications and fundraising objectives.

Main Accountabilities

  • Provide strong leadership, management and vision for the marketing and communications efforts of the organization.

  • Create the annual marketing communications plan and strategy with clear measurements and verifiable indicators that serve the vision and mission of CIPS.

  • Delegate tasks and responsibilities in the marketing communications team, determine and track their KPI, and systematically develop skills and expertise in the team.

  • Liaise and coordinate all plans and activities with the other departments in CIPS to align operations.

  • Lead fundraising initiatives on behalf of the marketing communications department to support institutional growth and development.

  • Formulate key messages designed for target audiences that serve CIPS’ strategic objectives, and ensure messages are effectively communicated  to the media and through all available communications channels

  • Conduct market research and build a network of reliable external agencies and marketing professionals to stay ahead of competitors’ marketing communications efforts and to contribute to new institutional development initiatives.

  • Take responsibility for the frugal and effective management of the department’s budget.

  • Periodical reporting of marketing communications results to the Executive Director and the Board of Directors. 

  • Uphold an open, respectful, and collegiate work culture and environment within CIPS and ensure department compliance to CIPS internal policies and professional conduct.



  • A minimum of 7  years’ experience working in the marketing and/or communications field with at least 2 years’ experience of leading and managing at least 3 staff members within a marketing and/or communications team.

  • Strong, proven communications skills and significant experience managing people and cross-channel marketing campaigns.

  • An understanding of relevant public policy issues addressed by CIPS research would be a major asset

  • Well-spoken with strong interpersonal, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

  • Proven ability to guide, manage and lead  direct reports 

  • Strong written, verbal and visual communications skills, including presentation skills in English and Bahasa Indonesia.

  • Proven track record of steering marketing campaigns to success

  • Knowledge of marketing and communications industry measurements and frameworks.

  • Entrepreneurial and creative spirit with a keen interest and curiosity for ideas to solve communications problems.
